Track your pregnancy, have your doctor ease your worries in 24 hours and learn about embryo development.
Pregnancy for women (especially 1st time moms) can be a stressful experience as their body is changing and they start to worry about their developing baby.
Although a happy occasion, it is taxing both on their physical and mental health. Through research, prototyping and testing, I set out to create a solution to help these women and invented BabyBump, a responsive web app.
I set out to create a product that focuses on logging and storing women’s medical data and finding reliable pregnancy resources.
This decision was based on my competitive research of existing pregnancy trackers which started with this Forbes article: https://www.forbes.com/health/family/best-pregnancy-apps/
I analysed the top 2 with SWOT table and proceeded to conduct 5 user interviews with moms who have small children.
During the affinity mapping stage I have found that the REAL PAINT POINT of:
pregnant women is that they need a way to speak with their doctor within 24/48 hours and in-person appointments take days to book (and often are inconvenient).
On top of that, doctors often did not have time to offer mental health support.
A convenient built-in system that allows women to book a 30-minute video or audio call with their actual doctor or send them a chat message.
No more waiting for reassurance that my baby is ok
No more overworked medical and hospital staff
No more catching illnesses in the waiting room
No more overworked medical and hospital staff
Nurse Nancy - mental health coach.
She will pop up to
1. remind users to take vitamins
2. slow down and have enough sleep
3. recommend yoga exercises
4. keep track of tasks and calls
I tested the interactive prototype with 6 moms and gave them the following 5 tasks to complete:
1. Book a video/audio call with your doctor
2. Add an apple as a snack (to track your weight)
3. Track your contractions while in labour
4. Find solutions to your back pain symptom
5. Browse what development stage your baby is at
Then I summarized my findings using a rainbow spreadsheet.
I posted the Figma file on the uni’s Slack channel for peer feedback.
I have received more than 85 quality comments and made the following improvements.
I have carefully selected the colour scheme at the beginning of the high-fidelity design process. Chose a light blue to represent calmness and security and light yellow to bring in excitement and joy.
Sadly after developing some iterations my mentors pointed out I should check the contrast ratio which to none's surprise failed.
As I was intent to keep this soft (baby-like) vibe I found the solution of adding a soft border to all my CTA`s and removed any drop shadow that could be distracting to users.
Home feed updated daily with relevant development and weight update on the top. Users are offered content based on week of pregnancy.
Users can input personal details in a playful chat like manner while answering to Nurse Nancy webbot.
Ultrasound appointments and important dates and deadlines (such as filing maternity leave with employer or babyshower) can be tracked.
Popular in-built tool most women use nowadays, including a hospital bag checker to reduce stress during labour.
At the learn section women can search for symptoms and are offered both medical and holistic solutions for their pain/issues.
While counting calories and tracking weight, women are thought what benefits (or harm) the food they are eating have on development.
